The Leavitt field hockey team has had an exceptional start to the season. The team has a record of 10-2, playing hard teams such as Belfast and Freeport. These two teams are the only teams that the Hornets have lost to this season. Moving on, the Hornets are still hopeful going into the playoffs. The team has a hard drive to win coming off last season’s loss against Belfast that knocked them out of the playoffs.

Last season the Leavitt field hockey team had an amazing season as well, only losing two regular season games. The team went into the playoffs last year with a record of 14-2 with high hopes going into the playoffs. Team captains Addie Twitchell, Emma Beedy, and Maddie Morrin were strong leaders going into the playoffs.  After experiencing a devastating loss to Belfast 3-2 in the semi-finals of the playoffs, the team was devastated by this loss and planned to come out stronger for the upcoming season.  All six juniors on the team at the time were devastated but yet were driven to come back as seniors with a drive to win. Addie Twitchell said when interviewed “This season’s team is just so much closer together after the tough losses last year, and because we have all been playing together for two years now we just work so much better together.” “This year is going to be different.” -Maddie Morin.

Coming into the 2024 season returning players had a drive to win. New Senior team captains Katie Sirois and Olivia Miller have hopes of leading the team to the championships this season. “Being a team captain is just like being a part of the team like normal but except I do have more responsibilities, but everyone on our team is equal and I’m just the one with the label”- Katie Sirois said. The season has started exceptionally well for the Hornets, with a record of 10-2 recently losing to Belfast and Freeport. The Hornets are not letting these loses define their season and are only looking to move forward for the rest of the regular season. Leavitt now ranking third in the class B heal point standings gives the team more room to always improve and keep on pushing for the rest of the season.
