Nordic skiing is one of the oldest winter sports there is. Nordic skiing is a sport that consists of everyone competing for themselves, but also coming together and being a team. “One of the things that are super special about it is that we support each other and we make it a team atmosphere like a family, and we make the sport of nordic skiing more successful and more beautiful as we treat it as a team sport and support each other”.Dustin Williamson said. Williamson is the Nordic ski head coach and has coached the team to many victories in the past years and is a strong leader for this team of athletes.
When it comes to competing for meets the team “We work on techniques and are out on the trails to ski to prepare. We also will stretch and get our bodies healthy for the meet. we also need to build endurance, we also work on speed and wax our skis”, Williamson says, as the way the Leavitt ski team prepares to do their very best. coming into this season Williamson has shared the goals that the Nordic team hopes to achieve. “All team goals for the season are for the boys and girls team to receive the MPA sportsmanship awards and then also to be very successful both individually and as a team at the KVACs and the state championships. So maybe that means top two, top three, but also really is to have fun and support each other like a family.” The Nordic ski team has been very successful and hopes to bring more titles back for the team.
The Hornets are eager to get racing soon this season. “ We did have some strong leaders from last year’s seniors, but this year, we have Jake Denning, we have Ashley Roy and Heather Mousseau, and we have Jade Haylock, and then also up there, we also have Damon Rucci, Suroja we also have Liz Buckley, Haley Marston and then it’s just a whole list of awesome kids and leaders with great talent. Coach Williamson said. The Hornets season will hopefully begin this Saturday at Sugarloaf depending on weather conditions. The Hornet’s first home meet will take place on January 11th at Maine Outdoor Wellness Center. We wish the Hornets good luck this season.
