On this week’s edition of coaches corner we sat down with the Leavitt Girls Soccer coach Conner Cyr to discuss his background, the 2025 season and what’s next for the Leavitt girls.

Coach Cyr grew up in Greene, Maine and attended Leavitt area high school as an athlete himself. He has coached boys varsity hockey for 4 years, boys JV soccer for 2 years and 2025 was his first season coaching Varsity Girls Soccer. He explained that his love for sports and coaching was influenced by his own coaches growing up. “I had some really good coaches and some not-so-good ones,” Cyr said, explaining that both experiences influenced the way he coaches.

Cyr explained the 2025 season as an adjustment, both for the players and coaches. The team finished in their season with a loss to the state champions in the first round of playoffs ending with a 4-9-1 record. He pointed out that many of their games were very close, only separated by 1 or 2 goals. These tight games showed the coaching staff how competitive the team was despite their record and young team.

While talking about key players Coach Cyr explained that Reese Bilodeau was a crucial player on the forward line and team scoring. He described Brooke Boutaugh as an “elite passer and highly respected leader” although being quiet. He went on to talk about Avery Cologna a Leavitt senior and Bella Brill a freshman and their major roles playing at center back and spent 70-80 minutes on the field each game. He also gave props to Paige Booker and Annah Rothe for stepping up to big roles as freshmen on Varsity.

We also spoke about the team culture as a new coach, Cyr explained that in the past fall sports like Field Hockey and Football have been the primary focus by fans due to their success. He said that both the girls and boys soccer coaches hope to change this dynamic. He also spoke about the team leaders both vocal and by example. As already mentioned Brooke Boutaugh was seen as a quiet but well looked up to and respected upperclassmen on the other side Avery Cologna was seen as a more vocal leader on the field who helped guide the team through tough times.

Looking to the 2026 season Cyr explains that they will lose 5 seniors who played big roles however some younger players have already had a glimpse of the leadership they need to step into. He further explains Reese Bilodeau, Sophia Poulin, Bella Brill, and Paige Booker will need to step up even more this season and he is looking for many more to find their strong suits and for the team to become even more well rounded as a whole.

During the summer soccer season Cyr hopes to focus on fitness and conditioning compared to last year’s focus on plays, drills, and relationships. His Goals for the 2026 season is goal scoring, improving their overall record and earning a better spot going into playoffs.

Lastly, Coach Cyr’s advice for the upcoming young players is to “Have a good attitude, being physically fit. Summer soccer is a great way to show up.”
