On this week’s edition of coaches corner we sat down with the Golf coach and dean of students here at Leavitt Harry Haylock to discuss his background, the 2025 golf season and what’s next for the team.
Coach Haylock grew up in St Croix island, the largest U.S. Virgin Island, and went to school there all growing up. Throughout his youth he played nearly every sport other than soccer and ended up attending college in Massachusetts. His golf coaching career began 2001 and has extended 22 years since there was a small break in Leavitt’s team because of low participation. Haylock said that he has “Always been involved with helping people with their craft, and has always wanted very competitive teams.” He also helped coach the Buckfield softball team when his girls were young.
When asked about the 2025 golf season where their record was 8-2. They lost to Lincoln Academy conference champs, however that match was very close which they had a tie and lost in next best score. Last season they also qualified for the state championship. Overall Haylock was impressed with the team after losing good players like Jade. He gave props to the senior leaders Thomas Pratt and Morgan Folsom as well as the sophomore James Bisson who had the best record 7-1-2. Haylock believes that James will be one if not the main leader next season. Haylock mentioned that the team culture is very good with little drama and lots of light hearted jokes which keep it fun.
During the 2026 Haylocks hope to see James and Liam to step up and be team leaders. He also knows that there are a few upcoming freshmen who will hopefully be helpful to the team. He also hopes that all players spend plenty of time on the green this summer to improve their game. He said “The more time you spend chipping, putting and playing in competitions and any tournaments regardless if you come in dead last it helps your skill and confidence.
Lastly, Haylock’s proudest moments as a coach are being a Coach and parent for the stretch of years where Rudy and Jade won 7 of 8 championships which was awesome. In 2022 they were state champions, he got coach of the year and Jade was individual champion all in the same year. Haylock also said he takes great pride in how much work the kids put in and hearing other coaches and administrations talk about how we represent our school at the top level.
