He said the athletes who take the “boring” drills seriously are usually the ones who stand out the most. To keep athletes motivated during long meets, he stays fun, energetic, and even a little goofy. He also pointed out that even though track meets are long, there is always something happening if you pay attention.
Coach Fletcher, who coaches jumps like high jump, shared that she encourages athletes to try different events and not limit themselves, because they might find something they really enjoy. She explained that success in track isn’t just about winning, but about reaching personal goals and improving over time. She also emphasized the importance of the team’s strong, family-like bond, which helps make the season meaningful for everyone.
Coach Davis, who coaches distance events like the 400, 800, 2 mile, and race walk, explained that dedication is what separates good athletes from great ones, especially when athletes put in extra work outside of practice. He also shared that while physical training matters, mental toughness is just as important in distance running, because athletes have to push through difficult moments when they feel like stopping.
